Neuromuscular Therapy

Neuromuscular therapy is a technique applied to soft tissues of the body to deactivate tender points called Trigger Points (TrPs) found in muscles and connective tissue. A trigger point is a hyperirritable tender spot in an abused muscle that refers pain (“triggers pain) to other muscles. This is why the pain in your head may be coming from a neck muscle and the pain in your neck from a shoulder muscle and the pain in you low back from a hip muscle. If the trigger points are not treated, they can be the culprits in lingering pain even after an injury has healed, and the reason why the headache, neck ache, and backache keep returning year after year. Trigger points are physical phenomena that can be felt by touch. Trigger points are very common. They are also referred to as muscle knots. The pain caused by trigger points may be the biggest cause of disability and loss of time in the workplace.

CAUSES OF TRIGGER POINTS:

  • Injury

The purpose of trigger point therapy is to eliminate pain and to re-educate the muscles into pain-free habits. After several treatments these will be the benefits.
